Becki Ballard

Becki founded Hands On Projects in 2000.

Having undertaken a BSc in Nursing Studies at Edinburgh University and successfully gained the qualification of Registered General Nursing (RGN), she decided to move into the health promotion/health improvement sector.

Her first Health Promotion Adviser post was based in King’s Lynn and during this placement, she also studied for her Diploma in Health Education at Southbank University where she was awarded distinction. This was followed by two other Health Promotion posts in Norwich and Glasgow, including the development of the ‘Alive’ magazine, which was part of a multi-media campaign called ‘Get Up and Glasgow’.

Becki was becoming increasingly interested in the process of running a health initiative and how to communicate it effectively.

She gained experience in the voluntary sector in the mid 1990s working at Age Concern England HQ as the Communications Officer for ‘Ageing Well’, an award-winning health promotion initiative. Projects back in Norwich then followed, first around highlighting the abuse of vulnerable adults, then as project manager for the Cancer Network, based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The importance of involving the client group was also now becoming clear, something she has championed ever since under the Hands on Projects banner. Last year she successfully completed a personal development programme in Social Marketing run by the Institute of Social Marketing, a collaboration between the University of Stirling and the Open University.
