Hands On Projects News

Quotaion marksHands on Projects has been at the centre of an innovative social marketing intervention to improve the uptake of health screening in the NHS.

Without her help, we could not have taken the project forward, nor would it have gone so smoothly, nor would we have got so far in such a short time.Quotation mark

Designing dementia-friendly services in Care Homes

Feb 2014

Working in collaboration with Design 4 Dementia, HoP is providing an innovative service to care homes in a new venture which is helping to ensure that local care homes become dementia-friendly.

The focus is on the physical environment, staff training, and the management and organisaton of services. As the results come in we’ll put a gallery of pictures up to show you.

Supporting the Acute Sector

April 2013

Hospital signBecki Ballard is working with the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston to ensure that services are increasingly dementia-friendly. Such a clinical setting presents a real challenge to someone with dementia because the hospital can be such a busy and confusing environment.

The added difficulty with a hospital admission is that the person is likely to be there for some other medical reason and may be quite poorly. Lots to learn!

The Project Journey

Alzheimer’s SocietyAlzheimer’s Society

Nov 2012

Becki Ballard has just finished working part-time for the Alzheimer’s Society in Norfolk which she has thoroughly enjoyed. Her knowledge and experience in supporting people with dementia and their carers has grown and the experience has further strengthened her managerial skills.

She has also benefitted from receiving considerable training in key areas such as the all important Health & Safety, scoring merit in the process - apparently a rare achievement! She said “ It feels sad saying goodbye to staff but it does seem like the right thing to do as I turn my attention 100% to Hands on Projects”.
